Circumstances and effort uncovering the phenomenon of learning mathematics can be described with circles Hermenitik. Hermenitik circle in mathematics education research provides full awareness of the researchers that the learning of mathematics and its components are not sterile, but is associated or connected with various aspects and contexts learning both at a time when the past and at present time is the time for on going learning.
The scope of mathematics education research can come from a lack of motivation by researchers to carry out reform of mathematics education. Contemporary mathematics education research is essentially a research mathematics education in which sipeneliti have awareness of the need to understand nature of mathematics. If researchers want to study intensively studied on the background to the process of learning mathematics, the variation of interaction that may develop, as well as supporting factors that can be developed, so researchers can use the case study research and field research.The case study is an in-depth research on teaching and learning process mathematics in a particular school where the research results is a complete and well organized on the mathematics teaching and learning process. In the next development was felt that in the realm of education
mathematics, the research necessary to develop a skill that can develop new skills in the field of math or learning a new approach for teachers in managing the classroom and to solve problems related to the process of learning mathematics and how the direct application in the field.
Mathematics as search activity patterns and relationships, the implications of this view to the study of mathematics learning is the teacher needs to:
1. provide an opportunity for students to conduct discovery and investigation to determine the patterns of relationships,
2. provide an opportunity for students to experiment with different ways
3. encourage students to discover the existence of the order, difference, comparison, grouping
4. encourage students to draw general conclusions,
5. help students understand and discover the relationship between understanding one another
In various models that were developed then indeed a teacher will always be between the two poles between which the paradigm of learning math teacher-centered approach and student-centered. Has generally been understood that mathematics education in the future will be more student-centered learning where the student is the center, students are more active, initiative and responsible part of the learning process. Students are also expected to be more autonomous. Thus the role of teachers acting as facilitators of learning mathematics and dynamist. If teachers want the renewal of mathematics education research mathematics education will be a need.
